This is why we need new fresh ideas from the future leaders of tomorrow who can think critically, solve problems creatively, inspire others to help each other, and achieve common goals to stop the proverbial bleeding.

We Need You to Rise Up

If you aspire to be a leader in the future, there are a number of things you can do to prepare yourself for this much-needed role. Here are a few tips:

Communication

Developing your communication skills will be the quickest way to build up your confidence and start the process to develop your other leadership skills. It is essential for leaders to be able to communicate effectively with different of audiences. This includes being able to clearly share your ideas, actively listening to others, and building rapport with others.

To be a good listener is one of the most important skills for a leader. This ability to listen to others and read what they are actually meaning beyond the word that they share with you.

Example:

I was in Vietnam recently visiting my wife's family there. We were visiting with a family at a local church. When asked to counsel the daughters I asked one of what are three things that you like to do? She said, "Music, movies, and world travel." Then I asked why do you like these things? Her answer to all of them was that they make her feel peaceful. I also asked a clarification question of where she would like to travel to?. Her answer was, "Anywhere."

Can you hear the needs of and some of the issues that this young woman was dealing with?

Here's what I heard:
  • She doesn't feel safe

  • she feels trapped

  • she looks for ways to escape

  • she dreams of escaping her family

  • she also seeks to travel to far-off lands to get away from her problems.

I got all that from her the words: music, movies, travel, peaceful, and the one that was the icing on the cake was anywhere.

I asked her if she felt trapped in her family and she broke down in tears and cried for a few minutes.
